The good thing about the Backup Plus Slim is that the well-designed metal finish is available in different choices of various colors including classic black, red, silver, blue and white. Then choosing your drive pay attention to such detail that there are 4 different types of drives combined under almost the same title:
- Backup Plus Ultra Slim

- Backup Plus Portable
- Backup Plus Fast
The main differences between them are:
- Ultra Slim has capacity variations 1TB – 2TB and the thinnest from all above
- Slim has capacity variations 500GB – 2TB
- Portable only 4TB
- Fast only 4TB and the fastest and the thickest one
Design
Varying with the colours, the drive has a brushed aluminum front with an etched Seagate logo on the bottom right corner. The remaining case of the device is covered in plastic. It also features a small LED light at the top left corner that pulses when in use and goes off when not in use.
The Slim measures 4.4 inches / 113.5 mm by 2.99 inches / 76 mm by 0.47 inches / 12.1 mm, which is slightly larger compared to an iPhone 5. These dimensions make the Seagate Slim to be very slim and relatively light enough.
The drive uses a standard USB 3.0 cable and is backward compatible to USB 2.0; this allows the drive to connect to any Mac or PC. The packaging includes the USB cable, the Seagate Slim and a user manual.
Performance
Well, the Seagate Backup Plus Slim portable drive has some amazingly cool features that may make it stand out from the rest of the competition. At Seagate, they ensure that the safety of your information comes first. And with this notion, the Slim has two-year 200GB OneDrive free cloud storage.
Also, the Seagate has a dashboard that helps in backing up your favorite files, photos, music, and videos. This includes even those that you have shared online on social media like Facebook, Flickr or YouTube.
The device comes when it is preformatted in NTFS which runs only smoothly on both Windows and Mac OS interchangeably. Though for Mac users, some slight installation may be required.
When the device id subjected to speed tests, for which we used 5GB test file, the device is found to attain speeds of 119 MB/s for the writing speed and 125MB/s for the reading speed of the USB 3.0. In case of random reading and writing small files the results are 80.17MB/s read and 36.85MB/s write speed.
Usability
The Seagate Backup Plus Slim portable drive has received praises and criticism alike. Starting from the worst end coming towards the positive side, it is clear that although the Seagate Backup Plus Slim is marketed as Mac compatible drive. One has to reformat the drive to do a time machine backup. Most of the users don’t find doing this as an excellent method of convincing their judgements.
Otherwise, the Slim is a small drive that delivers big. With its vast storage options, it is very easy to use mostly on Windows even with those people who are not extremely tech savvy. But for the gurus of technology, some are even going to the extent of dismantling the drive and adding them as primary hard disks in their computers and even Play Station 4. One can imagine an upgraded boost of addition 2 TB worth of space to your Mac. Although this is not recommended at all as it will void your warranty.

With the vast storage spaces of up to 2 TB, there is no single day that storage space will be an issue.
