There’s a saying that “all work and no play makes jack a dull boy”. That’s definitely true, because over the years, there has been tremendous technological advancements in the area of science and technology, and the gaming industry has benefited from it.

Since the late 70s when the first ever video game console, the Atari was produced and released into the market with a price tag of $199 (estimated to be equivalent to $777 in 2016). The Atari sold 30 million units and was quite a popular game at that time. The popularity of the Atari video game consoles led to the production of so many other popular ones such as the Nintendo Game Boy, Sega, Play Station 1 through 4 as well as Xbox, to mention a few.

With the increasing quality of graphics of today’s video games – very super quality graphics make the recent games played on these consoles look real – the problem of storage arose.

Manufacturers have tried to increase the storage capacity of some of these consoles from 128GB to 500GB, yet, it’s still not enough, as it can only accommodate at most 5 games and might make the consoles to start lagging. Games such as Grand Theft Auto V, halo 5: Guardians and Call of Duty: Black Ops III installation files are as large as 50GB, 46GB and 48GB respectively, leaving you with less room for storage of your favorite games and files on your consoles. Problem?

Not really, and even though it were, there’s a solution for it.

You can either swap the internal storage drive on your video game console for another one which can meet the operating requirements of the console without damaging it, or you get an external hard drive for your video game console!

Why use an external storage drive with your console? There are a handful of reasons why you should use external drives with your consoles and they include the following

  • You could have your favorite files: music, photos and videos on the console. It’s no longer news that some games allow users play their own choice songs instead of listening to the default game soundtrack
  • You create space for downloadable contents on your console
  • You don’t need to delete old games before you install new ones

Well, I had WD hard drive 2Tb passport. I was best and had used it for over 2 years. It was very handy and never gave me any trouble when linking to computers and laptops. I had stored my personal files, work files and others.
Then I gave the drive in my family and bought Transcend, I don’t know why I bought another brand. Perhaps because I wanted to try another brand. Transcend hard drive is good but there is this connectivity issue, I always face. The usb sometimes does not recognize the hard drive, then I had to unplug and re-plug. This frustrates, when something important is playing and suddenly there is “error message” that “No drive found”. I couldn’t find any solution for this. So, probably next I will buy WD drive again.
